Chi Chapter of Beta Alpha PsiNational Academic and Professional Accounting Organization
Dear Prospective Beta Alpha Psi Member: Welcome back! We hope you had a great break! As you continue your scholastic and social activities at OSU, I hope you will consider becoming an active member of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP). Our members are exposed to a variety of different experiences that enhance their professional development. Beta Alpha Psi was founded to recognize outstanding academic achievements in the accounting area; to promote the study and practices of accounting; and to encourage a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility. The Chi Chapter at OSU, founded in 1938, has been very successful at achieving these goals in the past. The vast majority of outstanding OSU accounting students have been Beta Alpha Psi members, and they comprise an elite group of people in professional practice, both in public accounting and in industry. We are proud that BAP is considered one of the most active clubs on the OSU campus and in the Stillwater community. Chi Chapter has been named the OSU Campus-Wide Outstanding Student Service Organization five times. Enclosed with this letter is an application for membership. To become a member of Beta Alpha Psi, you must return your completed application and your most recent unofficial transcript (accessed through the Student Information System [SIS]) showing all upper-division accounting courses and current courses to Dr. Stefaniak’s office, Room 404 in the Business Building, by 12 noon on Wednesday, January 16th. A candidate must be an accounting major who has completed Intermediate Accounting I (Acct 3103) with at least a grade of “B’, have a “B” average in all accounting course work, a “B” average in all upper-division accounting courses (taken at OSU or other accredited institutions), and a 3.25 overall GPA (or a 3.5 in the last 30 hours at OSU). BAP normally meets every other Thursday. Meetings will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in The Murray Room unless announced otherwise. In addition to these meetings, a required meeting will be held January 17th at 5:30PM to go over requirements before the first meeting begins. The BAP Spring Initiation will be held in mid-April. All candidates must attend the first meeting, the spring banquet, the philanthropy event, and initiation, but are allowed to miss one professional meeting with an approved excuse. Finally, a candidate must perform 15 hours of approved community service. If your work or academic schedule does not allow you to meet these requirements this semester, we invite you to join us next semester. A $200 scholarship will be awarded each semester to the Outstanding Candidate as evidenced by involvement in chapter professional and service activities. There is a one-time charge of $55.00, which is sent to the national office of Beta Alpha Psi during the semester of your initiation. In addition, membership dues of $20.00 help fund local activities and provide you with the latest BAP shirt. Therefore, your first semester fees will be $75.00. After the application deadline has passed, we will contact you at the phone number you list with more information.
